Nikon introduces the new AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II zoom lens for use with Nikon DX-format dSLR cameras. The new lens covers an extremely wide range of focal lengths in a compact size of just 77 x 96.5 mm, and Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor assures fast and quiet autofocusing. Nikon also introduces the AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II with a maximum aperture of f/2.8 throughout the entire range. The 18-200mm lens will be available in September for $849, the 70-200mm lens in November for $2399…

Kodak announces five new EasyShare digital cameras. Leading the pack is the 12 Megapixel Z950, offering a 10x image stabilized optical zoom lens and a 3-inch LCD display. The camera will retail for $279.95 from August. Furthermore, Kodak introduces the 12 Mp models M381 with 5x optical zoom and the M341 with 3x optical zoom, to be available in September for $189.95 and $159.95 resp. The D3000 is Nikon’s new entry-level digital SLR, featuring a 10.2-megapixel sensor and a lightweight body with a couple of extra, quirky inclusions. As cameras go though, it’s pretty basic, which is reflected in its sub-AU$1000 price.
