Pentax launches DA 17-70mm f/4 AL SDM lens

Pre-announced at PMA 2008 in February, Pentax now launches the DA 17-70mm f/4 AL SDM lens, featuring a 4.1x zoom ratio covering wide-angle to moderate-telephoto ranges, and covers a focal-length range from 26mm wide angle to 107mm telephoto in 35mm format. The lens is compatible with the K20D, K200D, K100D Super and K10D and later Pentax dSLR cameras. According to the Pentax Lens Roadmap we may assume that the launch of the larger member of the family. the DA 60-250mm f/4 ED SDM, is imminent too…

Pentax has launched a consumer-level standard zoom lens for its range of digital SLRs: the slightly unwieldily named smc PENTAX-DA 17-70mmF4AL[IF] SDM. The lens offers the useful equivalent zoom range of 26-107mm combined with a maximum aperture of F4.0 and Pentax’ SDM system which uses a supersonic motor for focusing. The latter is only compatible with Pentax’ latest DSLR offerings - the K20D, K200D, K100D Super and K10D. On all other bodies focus mode will default to manual focus.

Nikon releases Capture NX 2 photo editing software

Nikon releases the new Capture NX 2 photo editing software, an evolution of the Capture NX software released in 2006. Capture NX 2 introduces the all-new Selection Control Point tool, which allows you to carry out nearly any image adjustment to a specific area with just a point-and-click to make the selection. The new Auto Retouch Brush allows you to simply apply a few mouse strokes to clear away spots or other distractions that appear in a picture. Furthermore, the new software offers some additional “NEF only” functions…
